Rainier Square is Second Tallest Building in Seattle

Standing tall at 58 stories, Rainier Square has been undergoing construction for the last couple of years.  This mixed-use building on 5th Avenue spanning a full city block in downtown Seattle will house office space, a hotel, retail space, residential units, and residential amenity areas.  Total square footage, including the adjacent Rainier Tower, will total 1.7 million square feet of space.  The unique design of Rainier Square features a swoop near the base, an homage to the architecture of Rainier Tower designed by Minoru Yamasaki.  Rainier Square was designed by NBBJ, an architecture firm based in Seattle, and will be developed by Wright Runstad.

The building will also include underground parking with a capacity of 1,000 cars.  On the main level, there will be 80,000 square feet for a retail space.  Included in that space will be PCC, which will take 20,000 square feet.  Above that, there will be over 700,000 square feet of office space.  This was home to Amazon, but they ended up subleasing the floors.  No word yet on who, if any, has decided to sign the lease to occupy nearly 30 floors of office space.

In between the office space and the residential units will be 2 floors of amenities.  Nearly 190 upscale residential luxury apartments will occupy the top of the tower, from floor 41 to 58.  This is duly noted as this will be the highest residential units with views available.  Connecting Rainier Tower and Rainier Square will be a 12-story hotel with over 160 guest rooms.  It will boast meeting rooms, a spa, and a rooftop bar.

Construction is continuing for Rainier Square and is set to be completed in the third quarter of 2020.  Shortly thereafter, office, retail, and residential occupancy will open.  Hotel construction is slated for the same time.

Rainier Square will be the second tallest building in Seattle standing at 850 feet.  The tallest building in downtown Seattle is still the Columbia Tower, standing 933 feet and 76 stories.
