Apple to Add Jobs to Seattle

The technology sector has been growing steadily over the years.  Most are familiar with California as being the major hub.  However, many companies have set their sights on Seattle as their newest headquarters.  As previously reported, Saleforce will be creating their secondary headquarters in Seattle.  Now, Apple plans to add about 2000 jobs to Seattle in the next five years as part of their major expansion, dubbing Seattle as a “key engineering hub” for their company.  This latest number is about double the amount of jobs originally planned.

In the winter of 2018, Apple had announced they would expand their current operations in Austin, Texas and establish new sites in Seattle, San Diego, and Culver City.  This expansion is part of Apple’s commitment to create more jobs in the nation.

In a press conference today, Apple announced their intentions in their yet to be completed campus.  Located in South Lake Union and only a couple of blocks from “Amazonia”, Apple will house their employees in two 12-story towers with 650,000 square feet of office space.  These towers will be powered by renewable energy entirely.  Rumors surround their current offices at Two Union Square will also be expanded.

Apple echoed the sentiments of Salesforce CEO for choosing Seattle as part of their expansion.  Seattle has a great reputation for local tech talent.  With Amazon, Microsoft, and even Google growing their footprint in Seattle, it’s no wonder more tech-based companies are calling Seattle their home.  I would anticipate this growth in jobs will continue to boost the market in Seattle.
