This Weekend's Events in Seattle
Seattle comes alive in the Spring, awakening from winter hibernation. We seek out what little sun we get during the Spring and embrace the rain when it comes. And with it, comes a slew of events over the weekend, sure to please even the pickiest of people.
Kicking off the season of street fairs is the U District Street Fair. The 50th annual street fair, stretching about 6 blocks on University Way NE, will have something for everyone including food, live performances by local bands, a kid’s zone, and of course, a beer garden. Big Time Brewery is hosting the beer garden this year and will have seating for both indoors and out.
Celebrating its 45th year, the Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF) is always a crowd pleaser. Showcasing films from all over the world, SIFF offers over 400 films and shorts. Film is an art that transcends culture, speaking directly to its viewers with vivid mastery and design. There are twelve different venues that show SIFF films and three that show them year-round. There are also family friendly films. It is highly recommended to purchase tickets for shows in advance, as most films offer only one or two screenings. For more information, visit siff.net.
Care to eat your way through the weekend instead of watching movies? You’re in luck. The Taco Libre Truck Showdown is happening this Saturday from 3-10pm. Located in South Lake Union, this 8th annual taco truck festival is growing every year. This family friendly event will have over twenty tacos to try and live music during the event. Need something to wash down all those tacos? This year’s event will feature a beer tasting garden and margarita garden. Tickets sell out fast for tastings. Admission is free for tacos.
Of course, there is always your local farmers market to hit. Magnolia and the U District hold their farmer’s market on Saturdays and Capitol Hill, Fremont, Ballard, and West Seattle hold theirs on Sundays. The Mariners are taking on the Minnesota Twins in a four-game series, already losing their first game 6-11.
Weather this weekend is cloudy for Saturday and rain on Sunday. But that won’t stop us from enjoying the Spring season and being outdoors. We’ve slept long enough.
