Seattle Job Growth

It seems the hiring spree in Seattle isn’t slowing down any time soon.  Oracle, a California based cloud company, announced they plan to hire about 2,000 employees globally.  However, based on a quick search, many of those openings are in Seattle show over 800 available openings.

This announcement comes in the heels of an earlier announcement of a partnership with rival Microsoft.  The latest jobs are for part of its infrastructure, which bolsters its company in the cloud industry.

About two years ago, Oracle leased space downtown, close to Amazon.  It leased over 175,000 square feet of space in the Russell Investment Center and another 10,000 at Century Square.  They plan to expand in Seattle, San Francisco, and overseas in India.

Although the jobs report for the nation has decreased for this month, it seems Seattle is picking up.  In the greater Puget Sound area, there are several sectors adding new jobs including construction, government, and professional and business services.

While there are many available jobs in Seattle, the Washington State unemployment rate is still higher than the nation.  The state’s unemployment rate is at 4.6%.
